RED SOX ADD INFIELDER AVILES

The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Mike Aviles from the Kansas City Royals for infielder Yamaico Navarro and pitcher Kendal Volz.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Aviles is a solid utility infielder who should help the Red Sox down the stretch. He can play second, third and shortstop. In Boston, he may see most of his time at short, since he has more power than Marco Scutaro and better defense than Jed Lowrie.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
Navarro could inherit Aviles' old role as a utility player with the Royals. With Alcides Escobar ahead of him at shortstop, Navarro's best bet for playing time in KC will likely come at second base. Volz is a decent reliever prospect, which makes this a solid deal for the rebuilding Royals.
