D'BACKS GET GREEN

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired outfielder Shawn Green from the Los Angeles Dodgers for catcher Dioner Navarro and pitchers William Juarez, Danny Muegge and Beltran Perez.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Ever since the trade of outfielder Steve Finley last season, the D'backs have been without an extra power bat in the lineup to go alongside Luis Gonzalez. Now, with the addition of Troy Glaus and Green, they have plenty. Green has had his struggles over the last couple of years in L.A. but he's still in his prime and playing in hitter-friendly Bank One Ballpark could be just what he needs to get his numbers back up into all-star territory. The cash received from the Dodgers will help pay off the hefty contract extension Green required to waive his no-trade clause.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The key to the deal for the Dodgers was Navarro, a strong catching prospect acquired earlier in the day by the D'backs from the Yankees for Randy Johnson. He's still very young, so a little rough around the edges, but his catching skills are improving and he is thought to have the potential to hit 20 home runs one day with a quick switch-hitting swing. He might get a chance to win a catching job this year. Perez is a lanky righty who still needs some minor-league seasoning but he has great command over a nice slider-fastball-change-up arsenal. He may have more upside than fellow righties Juarez and Muegge. The latter, at 6-5, has size on his side and is still a year or two away from having a shot at the Show. Juarez has some good heat and good command and is also a year or two away.
