DOUG DAVIS TO ARIZONA

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired pitchers Doug Davis and Dana Eveland, as well as outfielder Dave Krynzel from the Milwaukee Brewers for catcher Johnny Estrada and pitchers Claudio Vargas and Greg Aquino.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The D'backs add a quality lefty in Davis, who struggled with consistency in 2006. Eveland provides more depth, though he'll likely pitch out of Arizona's bullpen. Krynzel has a chance to play the role of fourth outfielder behind Eric Byrnes, Chris Young and Carlos Quentin. This deal would not have been possible if not for the presence of catchers Miguel Montero and Chris Snyder in 'Zona.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
Estrada should be an offensive upgrade over Damian Miller behind the plate, and his defense isn't bad either. As a switch-hitter, expect Estrada to play an important role in the middle of the Brewers lineup. Vargas is as inconsistent as Davis, but owns a better arm. He may thrive under Milwaukee pitching coach Mike Maddux. Aquino is a quality reliever who may earn setup duties with the Brew Crew next season.
