LOHSE DUMPED ON REDS FOR PROSPECT

The Cincinnati Reds acquired pitcher Kyle Lohse from the Minnesota Twins for minor-league pitcher Zach Ward.

What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
At this point in his career, it's hard to say the Reds will get anything of substance out of Lohse down the stretch. Still just 27, he struggled in a big way with the Twins this year, first yanked from the rotation and then banished to the minors. He's been back up for a few weeks but hasn't fared much better. But he does give the Reds a little depth both in the bullpen and the rotation (he'll likely be a reliever for the time being) and you never know if he'll rediscover his merely decent form of past years.

What does it give the Minnesota Twins
Chosen in the third round last year, Ward is a big righty who has looked great in his first year pro, undefeated in 20 appearances (18 starts). While he wasn't considered a major prospect entering the season, a couple of more seasons in the minors like this one and he could be a big part of the Twins' rotation. His promise is an excellent return for a cast-off like Lohse.
