SANTANA TO THE METS

The New York Mets acquired pitcher Johan Santana from the Minnesota Twins for outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra.

What does it give the New York Mets
In Santana, the Mets have landed the biggest prize of the off-season--and possibly the biggest acquisition by any team since Alex Rodriguez went to the Bronx. Santana will be the ace of a very good staff in front of Pedro Martinez, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Orlando Hernandez, which should make them all better. The Mets gave up a chunk of their future rotation but it may have been a coup for the best pitcher in the game today.

What does it give the Minnesota Twins
Some would argue that the Twins could have received more in return for their best player, but at least they did acquire four quality prospects. Gomez is a good bet to immediately win the center field job in Minnesota, while Humber is a strong fifth-starter candidate. Mulvey isn't too far away from joining Humber, while Guerra is considered the key to the deal from a Twins standpoint. His upside is tremendous, but he is years away from contributing.
