ROCKIES ADD DEPTH IN P SLOWEY
The Colorado Rockies acquired Kevin Slowey from the Minnesota Twins for Daniel Turpen.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The Rockies were looking for veteran starting pitching in the off-season, so Slowey can fit the bill. They'll probably continue to seek out more starters, though. Slowey is serviceable but not a top-of-the-rotation candidate. He had some success in Minnesota, but injuries and inconsistency also got in the way.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins didn't have anymore plans for Slowey, so they're happy to unload him here--even without much in return. The likes of Anthony Swarzak and Brian Duensing had surpassed Slowey on the depth chart, while Nick Blackburn is also still in the rotation mix. So, Slowey was deemed expendable.
