ALOMAR HEADS BACK TO CHICAGO

The Chicago White Sox acquired second baseman Roberto Alomar from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations and a player to be named later.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The Sox bring back the man they acquired about 13 months ago to help them down the stretch and he didn't help them much at all. In fact, he's been a shadow of his formerly hall-of-fame-bound self since he was with Cleveland in 2001. But there's always that hope with such a gifted player that his old prowess will shine through again for the next couple of months and help them into the playoffs. Besides, it doesn't look like they're giving up too much to get him.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
It was almost a given that the D'backs would dump Alomar on someone. This allows top prospect Scott Hairston to rest assured that he'll play every day at second base. Anything they get on top of that is a bonus.
