CAVS CORRAL KORVER FROM HAWKS

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired shooting guard / small forward Kyle Korver from the Atlanta Hawks for shooting guard / small forward Mike Dunleavy, retired combo guard Mo Williams, and a protected future 1st-round draft pick.

What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs love to shoot 3-pointers--they take the NBA's second-most trey attempts per game, at 33.0--and Korver is a great fit with that in mind. He's one of the greatest 3-point threats in NBA history, and he also fills Cleveland's pressing need at shooting guard (with usual starter J.R. Smith sidelined the next few months by a broken thumb). He's also a veteran clutch shooter, which should help a lot come playoff time. An added bonus: Kover's affordable contract comes off the books after this season.

What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
Despite still being in the Eastern conference playoff mix, the Hawks are somewhat treading water and young Tim Hardaway Jr. is ready for more minutes at shooting guard. That said, this deal doesn't make a lot of sense financially for Atlanta because Korver had a fairly low-paying deal, and in Dunleavy they get an extra year of contract with a newcomer who doesn't play much. The conditional pick is nice, but might not amount to much (since Cleveland isn't likely to land in the draft lottery anytime soon). This move may signal the start of a rebuild by Atlanta.

Fantasy impact
Korver's fantasy value stays roughly the same in Cleveland as it was in Atlanta: which is to say, solid if you need 3-point numbers but less than it was in previous recent seasons. Korver is aging and doesn't really see major minutes. That said, his arrival in Cleveland hurts any fantasy value Iman Shumpert had, and probably cuts into Richard Jefferson's numbers too. On the Atlanta side of things, expect fantasy fortunes to improve a bit for Thabo Sefolosha and Tim Hardaway Jr., who should both see bigger minutes. Dunleavy remains a fantasy non-entity, and Williams is retired.
