PORTLAND SENDS TWO 1ST-ROUNDERS TO SACTO (GILES, J. JACKSON) TO MOVE UP FOR Z. COLLINS
The Sacramento Kings acquired two 1st-round draft pick in 2017 (No. 15 overall, swingman Justin Jackson, and No. 20 overall, power forward / center Harry Giles) from the Portland Trail Blazers for a 1st-round draft pick in 2017 (No. 10 overall, power forward / center Zach Collins).
What does it give the Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers are overloaded with fairly talented young players, so moving up here to get Collins makes sense for them. Collins has the goods to eventually be a starter in the NBA at either center or power forward (depending on the system) and his talent justifies No. 10 overall. Two middle-of-Round 1 draft picks is a fairly steep price to pay, but Collins is clear whom Portland wants (and the team saves money by not having to pay for two guaranteed first-round contracts).
What does it give the Sacramento Kings
The Kings have made some dubious choices in the past few years, but it's easy to like this trade. Jackson and Giles are both quality prospects who might play a long time in the NBA; Jackson has the goods to possibly be a starter soon on the wing, while Giles might eventually be a star (if he can stay healthy). Giles was generally seen as the highest-rated prospect coming out of high school a year ago, so if his knees hold up--not a sure thing--he can be a steal here for Sacto.
Fantasy impact
Collins and Giles don't look likely to be significant fantasy contributors as rookies (although they likely will in a few years), but Jackson is worth keeping on the fantasy radar. If Jackson can win a rotation job with the Kings--very conceivable, considering their lack of proven depth--he will then be worth a speculative pickup in most fantasy formats.
