PELS MOVE UP FOR POSSIBLE STARTER JACKSON; BACON TO HORNETS
The New Orleans Pelicans acquired a 2nd-round draft pick in 2017 (No. 31 overall, combo guard Frank Jackson) from the Charlotte Hornets for a 2nd-round draft pick in 2017 (No. 40 overall, swingman Dwayne Bacon) and cash considerations.
What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
This Hornets draft has been an impressive one. After Malik Monk fell in their laps in Round 1, now they add one of the better shooters in the draft, the talented Bacon. Both of Bacon and Monk should be able to contribute fairly significantly to the Charlotte cause, and join fellow necomer Dwight Howard in helping the Hornets push for a playoff spot. Very solid move by Charlotte, even if it means msising out on a great prospect in Jackson.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
Fantastic move by the Pelicans. After pulling off one of the more impressive and shocking trades in recent NBA memory (adding superstar center Boogie Cousins last season), now they steal one of the most underrated players in this year's draft in Jackson. He is arguably the most athletic guard in this year's class, and he's coming from a great Duke program after being one of the nation's most highly-regarded high schoolers. Cousins and fellow superstar big man Anthony Davis need a guard to get them a ball and take the pressure off, and Jackson might just be that guard.
Fantasy impact
Both of Jackson and Bacon are worth considering for fantasy purposes next season, even if they don't project as stellar producers straight out of the gate. Both have talent and both are pretty polished, so keep them in mind as potential free agent pickups as the season progresses.
