PISTONS NET VET NELSON
The Detroit Pistons acquired guard Jameer Nelson and a second-round draft pick in 2022 from the Chicago Bulls for forward/center Willie Reed and a second-round draft pick in 2022.
What does it give the Detroit Pistons
With their recent acquisition of superstar Blake Griffin, the Pistons made it clear they're going for it in their quest for a playoff spot. Nelson will help with that. He's a smart veteran leader who's a nice fit for both Detroit boss Stan Van Gundy's love of perimeter shooting, and the Pistons' need for depth at point guard. His inexpensive contract expires in the summer, so this is a nice move.
What does it give the Chicago Bulls
The Bulls aren't expected to keep Reed, so this move is mostly just about clearing roster space. Nelson was acquired in a recent trade with New Orleans, so Chicago flips him here and moves forward with the youth rebuild.
Fantasy impact
Nelson might have some minor fantasy appeal if Ish Smith gets injured and Reggie Jackson stumbles in his return from injury, but don't pick up Nelson until those things happen. There's no fantasy impact on the Bulls side of this deal.
