SIXERS SEND MIKAL BRIDGES TO SUNS FOR ZHAIRE SMITH AND A 1ST
The Phoenix Suns acquired the draft rights to swingman Mikal Bridges from the Philadelphia 76ers for the draft rights to shooting guard Zhaire Smith and a 1st-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the Phoenix Suns
The Suns might have overpaid a bit here for Bridges, but it's a very solid risk. Bridges may be the most NBA-ready player in the whole draft, and he brings a defensive presence and two-way game that should make him a Suns starter right away. Phoenix needs more players like him, and while this is an expensive price he should be worth it (and soon).
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
Strange deal by the Sixers. Smith is an exciting prospect who might be ready to push for the team's starting shooting guard job, but Smith would have been exactly what Philly needs: a polished two-way small forward who can help them take the next step. The added draft pick probably makes up the difference, but this is a curious move for a team seemingly on the cusp of contending.
Fantasy impact
Bridges appears to have a far better chance at fantasy success in Year 1 than Smith. That said, Smith has some star tools and should also be on the radar in case he pushes for a starting gig with Philly. Both should be on late-round fantasy lists for next season, but Bridges should be higher up those lists than Smith.
