SUNS SEND SALARY, DUDLEY, PICK TO NETS
The Brooklyn Nets acquired swingman Jared Dudley and a protected 2nd-round draft pick in 2021 from the Phoenix Suns for power forward / center Darrell Arthur.
What does it give the Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn adds a little salary here with Dudley (since he makes just over $2 million more than Arthur in the coming season) but he can be a valuable role player for the young and rebuilding Nets in 2018-19. Dudley is a locker room leader type of vet, and he's a highly versatile performer who can start for stretches if needed and even play some 'stretch four' power forward thanks to his 3-point shooting ability. The draft pick is top-35 protected in '21, and adds to Brooklyn's growing stockpile of future picks.
What does it give the Phoenix Suns
Phoenix will save several million dollars by swapping out Dudley's contract for Arthur's, since they'll reportedly buy out the rest of Arthur's $7.4 million deal. So in essence, the Suns save a lot of money by moving a second-round draft pick and a vet (Dudley) who was unlikely to play much at all for them.
Fantasy impact
Dudley gets a small boost in fantasy sleeper status after this deal, since he is joining a team that might use him in the rotation (which wasn't going to be the case for him in Phoenix). That said, don't expect many of his new Nets teammates to be adversely affected in terms of playing time, and do be surprised if Dudley is a fantasy factor in any but the deepest of leagues. Meanwhile it's anyone's guess which team Arthur will wind up on for '18-19, so this swap has no fantasy fallout (yet) in regard to him.
