KINGS COMPLETE A DEAL FOR HARRISON BARNES
The Sacramento Kings acquired forward Harrison Barnes from the Dallas Mavericks for forward/guard Justin Jackson and forward/center Zach Randolph.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings
This is a good move for the young Kings, as Barnes should provide leadership and versatility to the lineup. The 26-year-old won an NBA title with Golden State in 2014-15, so he should help the likes of De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and the rest of the young Kings in their quest to make the postseason in the Western Conference. Barnes can play both forward positions, which also helps the lineup.
What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
In Jackson, the Mavericks add a celebrated NCAA player at North Carolina who has yet to make his mark on the NBA. There is still plenty of time for Jackson to do so, and he may become another core piece in Dallas (to go along with rookie superstar Luka Doncic and perhaps fellow newcomer Kristaps Porzingis. Randolph has yet to appear in an NBA game in 2018-19 and was added here for cap purposes.
Fantasy impact
Barnes joins a fairly crowded frontcourt in Sacramento with the likes of Nemanja Bjelica, Marvin Bagley III, Willie Cauley-Stein, Harry Giles III and swingman Bogdan Bogdanovic. Therefore, his fantasy value may actually take a hit in Sacramento. The opposite may be true with Jackson, especially if he takes over for Barnes as the starting small forward in Big D (his competition will be Dorian Finney-Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr., mainly). Randolph may never play again and should continue to be ignored in fantasy circles.
