SPELLMAN SENT TO GOLDEN STATE
The Golden State Warriors acquired forward/center Omari Spellman from the Atlanta Hawks for center Damian Jones and a second-round draft pick in 2026.
What does it give the Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are retooling this off-season, so adding the young Spellman (who turns 22 later this month) makes sense. He can play both power forward and center, so expect to see Spellman coming off the bench in 2019-20. He could become a solid contributor and a rotation regular for Golden State.
What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
In Jones, the Hawks add a solid center who might wind up the starter in 2019-20. The 24-year-old Jones made 22 starts for Golden State last season, so he should challenge Alex Len for playing time in Atlanta. The seven-footer still has some untapped potential as a scorer, but he will not be featured prominently.
Fantasy impact
Both Spellman and Jones are headed to good situations with this trade. Neither player should be rated too highly, however. Take a wait-and-see approach once the regular season begins to see if either Spellman or Jones is worth picking up in fantasy leagues.
