GOLDEN STATE GETS KELLY OUBRE JR.
The Golden State Warriors acquired forward/guard Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder for a protected first-round draft pick in 2021 and a second-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the Golden State Warriors
The Warriors had to make a move after learning of Klay Thompson's latest long-term injury (which will keep him out of action for a second straight season). Enter Oubre Jr., who broke out last season in Phoenix and should be a nice fit in Golden State. Expect him to start at small forward, with Andrew Wiggins lining up next to Steph Curry as Thompson's replacement. Adding Oubre Jr. keeps the Warriors as contenders in the Western Conference.
What does it give the Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder have been making countless moves this off-season, and that is even before the free agency period opens! Oubre Jr. was acquired from Phoenix in the Chris Paul deal but his stay in Oklahoma City was short. OKC was probably going to trade Oubre Jr. at some point in 2020-21 anyway, but the Thompson injury expedited matters for the Warriors. Darius Bazley and Hamidou Diallo figure to benefit the most from Oubre Jr.'s departure.
Fantasy impact
Oubre Jr.'s fantasy stock could be even higher with the Warriors than it was last season in Phoenix (and is definitely better than if he had stayed in OKC). He should be considered a potential mid-round steal in some formats.
