DETROIT DEALS DERRICK ROSE TO NY

The New York Knicks acquired guard Derrick Rose from the Detroit Pistons for guard Dennis Smith Jr. and a second-round draft pick in 2021.

What does it give the New York Knicks
Veteran Rose joins New York for the second time in his career (he played with the Knicks in 2016-17) and is reunited with head coach Tom Thibodeau for the third time. Rose will probably spend most of his time coming off the bench as a scoring option.

What does it give the Detroit Pistons
Smith Jr. has some untapped upside but he was buried on the depth chart with the Knicks. In Detroit, he has a chance to play a lot (and even become a starting guard) for the rebuilding Pistons. The second-round pick in this trade is an added bonus.

Fantasy impact
This trade should really help Smith Jr. the most, though Rose could revive his bench scoring as a member of the Knicks. Both players could be picked up in deeper leagues.
