ANDERSEN TO HOUSTON

The Houston Rockets acquired center David Andersen from the Atlanta Hawks for a future second-round pick, cash and future considerations.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
The Rockets are still somewhat scrambling to sort out their center situation after the news that superstar Yao Ming may miss the 2009-10 season due to foot problems. Andersen is an NBA-ready talent who, for the past couple of years, has been one of the best centers on the planet playing outside the NBA. He isn't likely an NBA star but he will likely be an above-average NBA pivot. His addition may also let Luis Scola play more power forward.

What does it give the Atlanta Hawks
The recent signing of Zaza Pachulia and the ongoing emergence of Al Horford have the Hawks set at center for the foreseeable future, so they are clearly getting what they can here for Andersen. The Houston Chronicle reports the Hawks got $2 Million in the deal, and that will help as they face the NBA's salary cap with an increasingly star-laden roster.
