FIRST-ROUNDERS SWITCH TEAMS

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired forward Rodney Carney (the 2006 draft's No.16 overall pick) and cash from the Chicago Bulls for guard-forward Thabo Sefolosha (the 2006 draft's No.13 overall pick).

What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
A highly athletic young swingman who might challenge for their small forward spot. Carney was projected to go a tad higher in the draft than No.16 but fell because of doubts about his commitment to improving, but if he can focus he has star potential. The cash obviously offsets the lower value of the pick, but will help the Sixers since they acquired three rookie contracts in this draft.

What does it give the Chicago Bulls
A player they were targeting earlier than their No.16 pick, one who might eventually be a starter. Sefolosha really helped himself into the lottery with some fantastic pre-draft workouts. He is most commonly compared to Phoenix do-it-all-er Boris Diaw because he can play several positions and is a pass-first guy. The Bulls need more players like that in their backcourt. Since Sefolosha plays shooting guard, this deal may pave the way for the trading of Ben Gordon. If not, Sefolosha may emerge as a very versatile and well-rounded sixth man early on.
