TYRUS THOMAS NOW A BOBCAT

The Charlotte Bobcats acquired forward Tyrus Thomas from the Chicago Bulls for guards Ronald Murray and Acie Law as well as a first-round draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
This is a nice acquisition by the Bobcats, who are quietly becoming a very good basketball team. Thomas wasn't expected by many to be headed to Charlotte but he's a great fit for them. His athleticism and defensive focus are perfect for head coach Larry Brown's approach, and he has a good chance to start for them soon (with Boris Diaw possibly shifting to center). Giving up the first-rounder is a bit of a risk but if they can re-sign Thomas it will be more than worth it long-term.

What does it give the Chicago Bulls
The key here for the Bulls is the first-round pick, which is their way of cutting their losses when it comes to Thomas. He showed flashes of brilliance with the Bulls but didn't see eye to eye with head coach Vinny Del Negro, and was set to become a free agent after this season (and appeared likely to leave). Murray and Law can both help out in the short term as depth guards, but both have deals that will conclude in the summer (which will free up some off-season cash for Chicago).
