BULLS, CAVS IN A BLOCKBUSTER

The Chicago Bulls acquired forward Drew Gooden, guard Larry Hughes, center/forward Cedric Simmons and guard/forward Devin Brown from the Cleveland Cavaliers for center Ben Wallace, forward Joe Smith and guard/forward Adrian Griffin.

What does it give the Chicago Bulls
With the team struggling and their original acquisition of Wallace looking like a bust, the Bulls got two solid vets (in Hughes and Gooden) and two marginal project players in Simmons and Brown. They weren't going to win title with Wallace, but adding Hughes and Gooden won't exactly get the job done either. They really might have done better by getting some draft picks here, but perhaps this was the best deal they could find for a one-time dominator in Wallace who looks to be aging fast.

What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
It's Finals or bust for the Cavs. Adding Wallace and Smith gives them a quality veteran post pairing that will really open things up for LeBron James and for starting pivot Zydrunas Ilgauskas. The two aren't likely to be great for much longer, but they should have at least one or two more good years. Wallace may be rejuvenated by this deal. The addition of Griffin appears to be part of another big swap the Cavs pulled off on deadline day.
