RONDO FOR VALENTINE
In a three-team trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired guard Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Lakers; Los Angeles acquired center Louis Labeyrie from the New York Knicks, and New York acquired guard Denzel Valentine from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and guard Brad Newley, center Wang Zhelin and cash from the Los Angeles Lakers.
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
In Rondo, the Cavaliers get a true point guard to help curb the loss of Ricky Rubio (who recently sustained a season-ending injury). Eventually, Rondo should back up starter Darius Garland.
What does it give the Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers were not using Rondo much this season, so they did well to move him on. Los Angeles did not get anything of consequence back in this deal (Labeyrie will remain in Europe).
What does it give the New York Knicks
The tangible thing that New York received in this deal is cash. Valentine will be waived, while Newley and Zhelin will remain in Australia and China, respectively. There is nothing to see here.
Fantasy impact
Neither Rondo nor Valentine should be added at this time in most fantasy formats.
