MELTON MOVED TO PHILADELPHIA
The Philadelphia 76ers acquired guard De'Anthony Melton from the Memphis Grizzlies for forward Danny Green and a first-round draft pick in 2022 (David Roddy).
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers get Melton, a solid combo guard who is expected to back up both Tyrese Maxey and James Harden in Philadelphia. Philly is looking to shake things up this off-season, so adding Melton is a nice start to the off-season.
What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies lose a solid backup guard in this deal, but they used the draft pick to select forward David Roddy, a scorer in college basketball who appears to be an NBA 'tweener (short for a power forward, thick for a small forward). Green was thrown into this deal.
Fantasy impact
Melton has decent fantasy value but is not going to make an impact as a backup guard in Philadelphia. Green's knee injury may sideline him for most of the 2022-23 campaign. Stay away from him. Roddy is unlikely to make an impact in his first NBA campaign.
