STRUGGLING TEAMS SWING TRADE

The Washington Wizards acquired forward/guard Isaiah Livers, center/forward Marvin Bagley III, a second-round draft pick in 2025 and a second-round draft pick in 2026 from the Detroit Pistons for forward/center Danilo Gallinari and center/forward Mike Muscala.

What does it give the Washington Wizards
The Wizards add draft capital for taking on the additional year of Bagley III's contract, while also acquiring the two most productive players in the deal. Bagley III has seen limited minutes off the bench so far this season but has been productive. With more opportunity, he could build on his 10.2 points per game this season. Livers is in his third season in the NBA but seems to have reached his ceiling as a bench player. The Wizards must determining whether or not to re-sign him.

What does it give the Detroit Pistons
For the Pistons, this trade was focused on freeing up cap space for the summer. Both Gallinari and Muscala are on expiring contracts, which will give the Pistons $64 million in cap space this upcoming off-season. This trade should also make sure the Wizards stay ahead of the Pistons in the standings, as Gallinari and Muscala play limited minutes with limited impact. Detroit is hoping this trade guarantees them better lottery odds and more opportunities in free agency.

Fantasy impact
The one player who could have a fantasy impact on his new team is Bagley III. If he can solidify himself as the backup center behind Daniel Gafford, he could be worth rostering. Production was not the issue in Detroit, but playing time was. Monitor his usage and see if playing for the Wizards leads to an increased role in the offense.
