HIELD HEADS TO PHILLY IN 3-WAY DEAL
In a three-team trade, the Philadelphia 76ers acquired guard/forward Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers; Indiana acquired guard/forward Furkan Korkmaz, a second-round draft pick in 2024, a second-round draft pick in 2029 and cash considerations from the 76ers, and forward Doug McDermott from the San Antonio Spurs; and San Antonio acquired forward/center Marcus Morris Sr., a second-round draft pick in 2029 and cash considerations from the 76ers.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
Hield is a solid swingman who should be a fine option off the bench for the playoff-bound Sixers. He could even start at either shooting guard or small forward if need be. Hield is a nice addition to a roster that is led by center Joel Embiid and point guard Tyrese Maxey. He is a solid complementary player.
What does it give the Indiana Pacers
For the Pacers, swapping out Morris Sr. for McDermott gives them better outside shooting off the bench. Losing Hield hurts, but two second-round draft picks are a nice haul in return. Korkmaz is expected to be waived by the Pacers. Indiana has enough depth to off-set the loss of Hield.
What does it give the San Antonio Spurs
For the Spurs, getting back a second-round draft pick down the road while swapping McDermott for Morris Sr. looks like a solid move. They will also receive some money to pay Morris Sr. In recent weeks, McDermott saw his playing time reduced as the Spurs evaluate younger players for the future.
Fantasy impact
Hield could be a sneaky option in some fantasy leagues down the stretch, but McDermott and Morris Sr. can be ignored in most fantasy circles. Korkmaz will be starting over when/if he is waived, so there is no need to pick him up.
