SESSIONS NOW A LAKER
The Los Angeles Lakers acquired point guard Ramon Sessions and swingman Christian Eyenga from the Cleveland Cavaliers for a first-round pick in the 2012 draft, swingmen Luke Walton and Jason Kapono, plus the right to switch a 2013 first-rounder--previously owned by Miami--for the Lakers' 2013 first-rounder.
What does it give the Los Angeles Lakers
After trying to trade for {P Chris Paul} earlier this season, the Lakers are clearly in the market for a playmaking point guard who can give their offense a boost. Enter Sessions, who's not as good as Paul but is definitely one of the NBA's more underrated passers and catalysts. He has a chance to step in as the starter right away, and if he doesn't then he should play major minutes off the bench. Moreover, his contract (which has another season on it after this one) is pretty affordable. Meanwhile, Eyenga is a still-promising young swingman who should be a future factor once he gets his game on track.
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
With {P Kyrie Irving} settling in as a star point guard for the next decade or so in Cleveland, the Cavs could afford to let go their talented top backup (especially since they're no longer likely in the East playoff picture--especially after this deal). Getting a first-rounder (especially in a very good 2012 draft) is a coup here for them. This move also lets {P Daniel Gibson} play more point guard. Walton won't likely be much of a factor for Cleveland, but his contract extends to next season and he can be a good locker-room vet (as can be Kapono, who is also a very good outside shooter when on his game). The right to swap 2013 first-rounders with L.A. is a sweet little added bonus.
