JONES TO SUNS
The Phoenix Suns acquired forward James Jones from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for a 2008 second-round draft pick.
What does it give the Phoenix Suns
A solid perimeter reserve who presents some match-up problems for
opponents. Jones is likely to be a specialist for the Suns in 2005-06,
probably coming off the bench when the team is either far ahead in a
game or far behind. His good range from behind the 3-point arc helps
fill some of the perimeter shooting void left by the losses of Quentin
Richardson and Joe Johnson, but he's not as versatile or talented as
either of those two. Jones may eventually be a very solid player but for
now doesn't project as more than an intriguing bench guy (at least for
the coming season).
What does it give the Indiana Pacers
A second-rounder who down the line will likely be as good as Jones, plus
some more playing time for better players. Jones wasn't likely to see
nearly the same burn this season as he did in the last because the
Pacers aren't likely to be as injured, and because they have more talent
this year. Rookie Danny Granger and free agent Sarunas Jasikevicius need
more playing time and Jonathan Bender might get healthy one of these
days, so Jones didn't figure heavily into Indy's plans for the coming
season.
