CLIPS BRING IN BOBBY BROWN FROM HORNETS
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired guard Bobby Brown from the New Orleans Hornets for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2014.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
The 2014 conditional 2nd-round pick obviously isn't the big prize here for the Hornets. More important was cutting Brown's salary, which gets them under the NBA's luxury tax threshold. The team would have had to pay almost three-quarters of a million dollars more if they'd kept Brown (on top of his remaining pay for this season). Even better, they get a tidy $5 Million bonus from the NBA given to teams who don't surpass the cap.
What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers are dealing with a lot of injuries lately, and while Brown isn't likely to be a big contributor for them he's an athletic guard who can at least give them some depth behind Baron Davis. Longer-term, Brown has the chance to impress Clips boss Mike Dunleavy Sr., and potentially earn more court time than he was seeing in New Orleans. L.A. has waived JamesOn Curry to make room.
