CAVS MOVE MO FOR BARON

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired guard Baron Davis and a first-round pick in the 2011 Draft from the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Mo Williams and forward Jamario Moon.

What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
Interesting move here by the Cavs. Davis is having a resurgence of late and is one of the NBA's elite point guards when on his game, but Cleveland doesn't really need him for now or the future. With Ramon Sessions playing like a star lately and with the Cavs in obvious rebuilding mode, adding an injury-prone and expensive vet such as Davis (who has two more very pricey years on his contract after this one) doesn't really add up. Getting the draft pick is a nice move, however, and it should be a lottery selection considering the Clippers' record. Don't be surprised if Davis is re-packaged by the Cavs to a contender.

What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers
Like with the Cavs and Davis, this deal doesn't make much sense (on paper) for the Clippers. While young point guard Eric Bledsoe isn't quite ready for prime time, Williams is an expensive and injury-prone veteran who has another year after this one on his expensive contract. He's not a great fit for a Clippers squad that has Bledsoe, Randy Foye, and the eventually-returning Eric Gordon playing well. Like with Davis, it won't be surprising if Williams is moved again soon (now or in the summer). That said, giving up a first-rounder for him is a head-scratcher. Moon appears to be a throw-in, and his affordable contract expires at the end of this season.
