CATS ADD DEPTH AT FORWARD

The Charlotte Bobcats acquired forward Jumaine Jones from the Los Angeles Lakers for a 2007 second-round draft pick.

What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
Another shooter who might give them the perimeter scoring they need. The Bobcats are desperate for players who can put the biscuit in the basket and that is what Jones is best at. He'll likely come off the bench and hopefully provide instant offense. The Bobs are usually a defense-first team so Jones probably won't threaten for a starting spot, but he may see some action as a sixth or seventh man with Charlotte.

What does it give the Los Angeles Lakers
A way to clear their logjam of swingmen. Jones is a versatile scorer with good size for a shooter but he doesn't play enough defense to suit new head coach Phil Jackson's system. The Lakers love to feature players with Jones' rangy frame but he doesn't pass or defend nearly enough to be a "Jackson" type of player. Jones had slid down the Laker depth chart as it was with Lamar Odom moving back to small forward and Devean George getting healthy, so the move is as good for him as it is for the Lakers. The caliber of draft pick is standard for an average player.
