RAPS TRADE 56th PICK
The Philadelphia 76ers acquired forward Edin Bavcic (the 2006 draft's No.56 overall pick) from the Toronto Raptors for cash.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
A relatively promising but raw prospect who can help bolster their young forward corps. With Chris Webber heading toward the downside of his career, Philly needs to continue its youth movement at the power forward position. Bavcic is nowhere near NBA action but he impressed the Raptors enough to draft him and the Sixers enough to trade for him. He is considered one of the better young sleeper prospects in Europe.
What does it give the Toronto Raptors
Some extra money, which they'll need to help fuel their rebuilding project. Top pick Andrea Bargnani will command the highest salary of the rookies and with the Raps looking to add some more veterans this summer, things will get more expensive. The Raptors covet players like Bavcic but obviously figured they didn't need him as part of their new wave. They still have the rights to a similar player in Uros Slokar (drafted last year) so it's no big setback for a team that had an extra pick as it was.
