WARRIORS SNAG BARON DAVIS
The Golden State Warriors acquired guard Baron Davis from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for forward-center Dale Davis and guard Speedy Claxton.
What does it give the Golden State Warriors
A dynamic all-star to run their team and play solid defense. Despite his injury history and a soured relationship with the Hornets brass, 'Robber Baron' is still one of the NBA's elite players when healthy. Besides being a charismatic leader and prolific scorer, he also sets a new defensive tone that is the Warriors' biggest weakness. He's also still young enough at 25 to grow along with Golden State's young, athletic core of Jason Richardson, Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy. He makes them a better team immediately and provides an instant shot of credibility.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
A solid and underrated point man and another massive contract to dump this summer. Like Atlanta last season, New Orleans is going all out to build for the future. While getting rid of high-priced veterans for expiring contracts, they're freeing up millions in summer cap space. Meanwhile, they should be guaranteed a high draft pick when the team finishes in the draft lottery thanks to the talent dump.
