CELTS TRADE DRAFT PICK FOR DICKAU
The Boston Celtics acquired guard Dan Dickau from the New Orleans Hornets for a 2006 second-round draft pick.
What does it give the Boston Celtics
An underrated point guard who can step in right away and run their
offence. Dickau was on the verge of becoming a journeyman after spending
time on the rosters of five different teams in one calendar year
(Atlanta, Portland, Golden State, Dallas, and New Orleans). Now, he
finally isn't likely to get traded. The Celtics desperately need him to
stabilize their chaotic point guard situation while young Tony Allen
recovers from a sore knee and the team continues to develop the likes of
Marcus Banks and rookie Orien Green. Expect Dickau to become a fan
favorite in Beantown and duplicate his breakout numbers from last season
in New Orleans (roughly 13 points, five assists, and a steal per game).
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
A consolation prize in return for a player who didn't fit into their
plans. Dickau was actually the Hornets' best player last season but with
rookie stud Chris Paul taking over at the point and Speedy Claxton a guy
with starter-caliber talent, Dickau became the odd man out. The
second-round pick New Orleans receives won't likely be as good as
Dickau, but Boston wasn't going to give up a first-rounder for him.
