RAPS MOVE JACK, GET PEJA & BAYLESS

The Toronto Raptors acquired combo guard Jerryd Bayless, swingman Peja Stojakovic, and cash from the New Orleans Hornets for combo guard Jarrett Jack, center David Andersen, and point guard Marcus Banks.

What does it give the Toronto Raptors
Moving Jack gives a strong vote of reassurance to point guard Jose Calderon (who can't have been happy about being almost traded to Charlotte in the summer and will now see a big boost in playing time). Meanwhile Bayless has the goods to be a star NBA guard somewhere down the road, and Peja will bring good veteran leadership and dependable three-point shooting. And the fact Stojakovic's big (over $14 million) contract expires after this season gives Toronto a lot of options going forward.

What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
The Hornets are off to a great start this season and bringing in Jack only bolsters their playoff chances. Jack is a dependable NBA point guard who can also play some 2-spot, and he's a better fit for New Orleans right now than Bayless was backing up superstar Chris Paul. Jack's minutes will likely take a big dive with this move, however. Andersen is a dependable backup center who should bring solid veteran play behind starter Emeka Okafor, while Banks may get yet another chance to live up to his unfulfilled potential. Stojakovic and Bayless weren't playing much, so this is a nice swap for the Hornets.
