BAXTER-BOGANS SWAP

The Houston Rocktes acquired forward Keith Bogans from the Charlotte Bobcats for forward Lonny Baxter.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
The Rockets get yet another undersized but versatile outside shooter, the kind of player they seem to love. Bogans joins a Houston team seemingly obsessed with "tweeners"--skilled players who don't seem to have a fixed position. Bogans is a little small for small forward but doesn't pass much for a shooting guard, yet he'll fit right in with similar perimeter players such as Derek Anderson, Jon Barry, Bob Sura, David Wesley, Luther Head, and Ryan Bowen. He isn't expected to be a regular rotation guy, but has the goods to be if called upon.

What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
The Bobs get yet another underrated post presence, the kind of player they seem to covet. Since being hired to build the fledgling Bobcats before last season, GM/coach Bernie Bickerstaff has tried to consistently bring in two types of players: Underrated guys who can play defense, and underrated guys who have size. Baxter fits both those bills, as he's a solid and tough reserve defender who protects his own basket and still has some upside despite being 27 years old. He joins an improving group of Bobcat big fellas including Emeka Okafor, Melvin Ely, Primoz Brezec, Sean May, and Jake Voskuhl.
