MOHAMMED TO THUNDER

The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired center Nazr Mohammed from the Charlotte Bobcats for guard Morris Peterson and forward D.J. White.

What does it give the Oklahoma City Thunder
It's getting hard to not be wowed by the ongoing brilliance of Thunder GM Sam Presti. Not only does he add an expiring contract in Mohammed here (giving the Thunder continued breathing room and options in the off-season) but he gets a very solid and dependable backup at center who can help his team right away in their playoff push (and in return for two guys who were barely playing). With Kendrick Perkins also acquired Thursday, Oklahoma City now has some very active and tough low-post players who should really shore up their defense. Add to that the growing role of defensive ace Serge Ibaka (who's likely now a starter with Jeff Green gone), and this is another great move by the Thunder.

What does it give the Charlotte Hornets
White is the key here for the Bobcats. Still a somewhat promising young big-man, White should see more opportunities with the Bobs than he did this season with the Thunder. He was a first-round pick in 2008 (No. 29 overall) and is only 24 years old, so should still have some upside. Equally appealing for Charlotte is White's affordable deal doesn't expire until after next season. Peterson clearly was included to make the salaries work, and he has barely played this season. His fairly sizeable contract comes off the books in the summer, and is roughly the same amount as Mohammed's deal (which also expires after this season).
