CELTS GET BASS FOR 'BIG BABY'
The Orlando Magic acquired power forward / center Glen Davis and Von Wafer from the Boston Celtics for power forward Brandon Bass.
What does it give the Orlando Magic
The Magic face losing superstar Dwight Howard soon (either to free agency after this season or if he forces a trade before then) so adding a potential starting pivot in Davis makes some sense. 'Big Baby' is a bit more of a scorer than Bass, and has some frontcourt versatility (in that he can play either power forward or center). Moreover, by first signing free agent Davis here (and giving him the max amount he wants), Boston gets something in return for him.
What does it give the Boston Celtics
Bass is a quality low post presence who's a better all-round defender than Davis, and he takes smart shots (so will provide very good value for Boston off the bench). His reasonable contract expires after the next two seasons, so bringing in Bass (rather than committing to Davis longer-term) also gives Boston some financial flexibility here.
