WIZARDS TRADE THREE FOR JAMISON

The Washington Wizards acquired forward Antawn Jamison and cash considerations from the Dallas Mavericks for guard Jerry Stackhouse, forward Christian Laettner and the rights to Devin Harris.

What does it give the Washington Wizards
A healthy star who won't complain. Jamison effectively replaces Stackhouse, who was a versatile talent but complained, has a wonky knee and was undersized at small forward. Team management and Stackhouse clashed repeatedly during the season over the severity of the swingman's injury and eventually openly criticized each other. Jamison is a bona fide scoring star who works hard, stays healthy, and proved this year he wouldn't complain even when losing his starting status for no good reason (he was eventually named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year).

What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
Possibly a new starting backcourt and even more depth. This is a bit of a head-scratcher for the Mavs. While all three guys they pick up have talent, question marks swirl around all of them. Stackhouse is far from physically sound, having had risky knee surgery and a very slow recovery from it. Laettner is healthy but has always been a headache and was history in Washington after his mid-season suspension for unpublished off-court league rule violations. Harris might be good but was awful in pre-draft training camps, suggesting he may have been overrated. Looks like the Mavs will again be a whole new team next season--just not new and improved.
