RAPS ADD AJINCA

The Toronto Raptors acquired center Alexis Ajinca, a future second-round draft pick, and cash from the Dallas Mavericks for the draft rights to combo forward Giorgos Printezis.

What does it give the Toronto Raptors
Toronto bought out Peja Stojakovic before this trade then waived him, with the Mavs signing Stojakovic after he cleared waivers. That frees up a spot for Ajinca (whom the Mavs needed to drop to make room). Ajinca has some talent and athleticism for a 7-footer but hasn't been quick to develop in the NBA (although he may yet eventually be a solid center option, and will get more opportunities with the young Raps than he did in Dallas). Toronto also gets back the future 2nd-rounder they sent to Big D in the last draft, and the cash always helps.

What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
The key here for Dallas was signing Peja Stojakovic after Toronto recently bought him out. The Mavs are trying to win now, and Stojakovic can help them do that if he's physically fit. Adding Peja required the Mavs to open a roster spot, and Ajinca wasn't in their plans. It's unclear whether Printezis will ever play in the NBA, as he's in Europe and will be 26 years old soon. Another small bonus for the Mavs here is that moving Ajinca's $1.5 million salary opens up a trade exception, which will help Dallas with their salary cap.
