NUGGETS WELCOME FERNANDEZ, BREWER

The Denver Nuggets acquired shooting guard Rudy Fernandez and swingman Corey Brewer from the Dallas Mavericks for a future second-round draft pick.

What does it give the Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets get a major steal of assets here from Dallas by simply adding their salaries. Fernandez is a potential star who was arguably the best player in Europe before leaving for the NBA, and Brewer is a strong defender who's a nice depth and youth fit for Denver. Fernandez may start at shooting guard regardless of whether the Nuggets bring back RFA Arron Afflalo, and is the player to keep an eye on here. That said, Brewer may also force a bigger role for himself than he's had on his previous NBA squads.

What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
Dallas added a lot of veteran salary recently in trading for Lamar Odom and then adding Vince Carter and Delonte West, so they needed to move both salary and players. The Mavs may eventually regret giving up on Fernandez, but they're a veteran team trying to repeat as champions so it's an understandable move.
