WARRIORS TRADE NAJERA
The Golden State Warriors acquired forwards Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Rodney White from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for forward Eduardo Najera, guard Luis Flores and a 2007 first-round draft pick.
What does it give the Golden State Warriors
Two more big, talented, versatile young players for their youth movement. Say what you will about their work ethic or history, but White and Tskitishvili have real talent. They also can play a little D, which Najera couldn't (despite his reputation as a tough guy). Both could realistically develop into stars, as both are one-time lottery picks who just need an opportunity to play. Along with all the draft picks and other young prospects State has assembled lately (Andris Biedrins, Zarko Cabarkapa, Mikael Pietrus et al), the team could be a powerhouse in a couple of seasons.
What does it give the Denver Nuggets
A first-round pick and a gritty rebounder. The Nugs, remember, gave up
three first-rounders to the Nets to nab Kenyon Martin last summer, so this move will help with their future development. Mostly, this move
crystallizes their current rotation and ensures the likes of Nene Hilario will play more when he recovers from his current knee injury. Najera is a scrappy, character player who rebounds well but isn't much of a scorer or defender--making him sort of a skinny version of Danny Fortson.
