CLIPPERS ACQUIRE CAMBY
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired center Marcus Camby from the Denver Nuggets for a future second-round draft pick.
What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers
By landing Camby here the Clips did a nice job of reeling in a premier big-man to replace Elton Brand. With Brand heading to the Sixers the Clips had the room for Camby in both the lineup and on the payroll. And while the 2006-07 Defensive Player of the Year isn't the scorer Brand is, he is just as good (and arguably better) defensively. That said, at 34 he is approaching an age when most NBA stars decline; but then again, he cost the Clips almost nothing. Camby will help L.A. be much better than they were last season (when Brand was out for most of the season), but as a natural center he may take some time adjusting playing alongside incumbent pivot Chris Kaman.
What does it give the Denver Nuggets
By getting rid of Camby's big contract the Nuggets are, above all, giving themselves financial elbow-room. After little playoff success with last season's roster they have to shake things up a bit, and despite Camby's dominance it's clear the team is trying to get younger. Camby will be missed, but Denver at least now has the flexibility to re-work their roster going forward.
