SPANOULIS, FLORES ON THE MOVE

The Dallas Mavericks acquired the rights to Luis Flores from the Houston Rockets for the rights to Vasilis Spanoulis and cash considerations.

What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
A sleeper who could become an Allen Iverson-type player. It's fitting that Flores was traded to Dallas, because it's the perfect NBA team for him. The Mavs love to create matchup problems for their opponents, and that's exactly what Flores will do to most players trying to guard him. He's an extremely slick little player who can score like few other players in the draft. He's yet another undersized shooting guard taken this year, but with Dallas he'll probably be given more free reign than others will get elsewhere. Flores is a real sleeper who could thrive if afforded the right opportunity.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
Some depth and size at point guard for the future. The second round is all about what teams think they know (rather than what they actually do), and the Rockets have reportedly liked Spanoulis for a while. The trade was a good one for the Rockets; While Spanoulis doesn't have the scoring punch Flores owns, he could eventually be a very good point guard with his excellent size, good work ethic and strong basketball sense. He's at least a year away from playing in the NBA, but by the time he arrives he might be a solid contributor right away and even turn some heads.
