HEAT ACQUIRE ANDERSON

The Miami Heat acquired guard Derek Anderson from the Houston Rockets for guard Gerald Fitch.

What does it give the Miami Heat
Yet another sometimes temperamental but quality veteran for their title run. Anderson is a very effective guard who can move seamlessly between shooting guard and point guard, which is something the Heat can use. With Jason Williams and Gary Payton at their best with more limited minutes and Dwyane Wade needing some rest for the stretch, Anderson may be the perfect addition for the Heat at this point. If he can stay healthy (which is always a big 'if'), Anderson may become a valuable reserve for Miami come playoff time, in the same way Keyon Dooling was last season.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
An underrated rookie for their stockpile of combo guards. The Rockets seem to love guards who can shoot a little and pass a little, and that's Fitch in a nutshell. Head coach Jeff Van Gundy has his favorites and Anderson wasn't one of them, the second time in two seasons Anderson has ended up on the outside of a rotation looking in. Whatever the case the Derek Anderson experiment didn't pan out in Houston, so team brass is likely pleased they can get rid of his remaining salary and add a solid (if not high upside) prospect for the future.
