GRIZZ GET SWIFT, GAY

The Memphis Grizzlies aquired forwards Stromile Swift and Rudy Gay from the Houston Rockets for forward Shane Battier.

What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
Two highly talented young forwards who can both be dominant at times. Memphis gets a much-needed re-injection of young talent. They already had Swift for several seasons and he played his best ball with the Grizzlies. Meanwhile Gay is equally promising and has similar doubters who suggest he may not be as driven as other top prospects. Regardless, it could be a steal for Memphis and adds two likely future starters. They both also play excellent defense, something critical to success in head coach Mike Fratello's system.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
A veteran player who is solid in every way. Battier will provide Houston with a very dependable scorer and defender who is a nice fit in their half-court system. He's also a leader on and off the court and is a constant source of positive energy and professionalism. Battier will likely allow Tracy McGrady to move back to shooting guard to take some of the load off the superstar's back, and he'll give the Rockets excellent shooting range and intangibles. He's not as purely talented as Gay or Swift, but Battier is the type of player who can help the Rockets get to the playoffs.
