EWING TO NEW YORK

The New York Knicks acquired forward Patrick Ewing Jr. from the Houston Rockets for the draft rights to Frederic Weis.

What does it give the New York Knicks
When the Knicks traded Renaldo Balkman to Denver earlier this offseason they lost their top energy reserve, and Ewing Jr. is a nice replacement for that role. He is not a center or big scorer like his famous father was, but he is a supreme athlete with a great motor. This is also a nice move in terms of public relations, for obvious reasons.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
Weis is playing in Europe and has never made the jump to the NBA despite being picked No.15 overall in the 1999 Draft. He's best known for being the poor victim of that famous Vince Carter dunk at the 2000 Olympics, wherein Carter leapt clear over Weis for the jam. Regardless, he is a mobile and experienced pivot who has made a solid career for himself overseas, and the Rockets needed to pare down an over-full roster while adding some potential depth at center.
