RAPS LAND ANDERSEN

The Toronto Raptors acquired David Andersen and cash from the Houston Rockets for a 2015 second-round draft pick.

What does it give the Toronto Raptors
The Raptors needed a veteran backup center / power forward and Andersen is a solid (if not flashy) option. His good size, fundamentals, experience, and smarts should help the young and re-tooling Raptors, and he may see fairly regular minutes behind Andrea Bargnani and Amir Johnson in 2010-11. He doesn't address the team's need for defense, but will fit in fairly nicely with their up-tempo approach on offense. The cash (roughly $1 Million) helps offset some of the salary Toronto is taking on.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
The expected return of Yao Ming and the recent signing of Brad Miller made Andersen expendable in Houston. The second-rounder is protected, in that it will become Houston's only if it lands between Nos. 51 and 55 in 2015's draft. So essentially the only significant return here for the Rockets is they'll save roughly $4 Million in salary and luxury tax by moving Andersen.
