MAVS MOVE MAHINMI FOR COLLISON, JONES

The Dallas Mavericks acquired point guard Darren Collison and swingman Dahntay Jones from the Indiana Pacers for center Ian Mahinmi.

What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks missed out on {P Deron Williams} and {P Steve Nash}, and with {P Jason Kidd} leaving for the Knicks they suddenly have a void at point guard. Collison has proven to be a good starting point guard for stretches in the past, and while he lost his starting gig in Indy, he's above average. He might not be a perfect fit for the aging Mavs, however (since he's such an up-tempo player, much like returnee {P Rodrigue Beaubois}) but he is still a solid addition talent-wise. Jones is an underrated defender who can provide solid depth to a veteran squad.

What does it give the Indiana Pacers
{P George Hill}'s step-up for the Pacers last season made the speedy Collison expendable, and Jones saw his role with Indy drop off the past couple of seasons. Moving those two contract for Mahinmi is a solid move, and he should provide underrated backup center play while rookie {P Miles Plumlee} learns the NBA game.
