HORNETS LAND ANDERSON FOR AYON

The New Orleans Hornets acquired power forward Ryan Anderson from the Orlando Magic for power forward/center Gustavo Ayon.

What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
Purely in terms of talent, this is a major heist for the Hornets. Anderson was the best-shooting big man in the NBA last season (and the league's top 3-point shooter) so he is a rare commodity, and he should be able to step in right away as New Orleans' starting power forward. Expect him to boost his scoring, rebounding, and shot-blocking even more, and continue to be a great source of 3-pointers.

What does it give the Orlando Magic
It's curious that the Magic would let go of the NBA's reigning Most Improved Player, but they're a team in flux and perhaps they don't see him as the same great fit now that perimeter-focused Stan Van Gundy is out as head coach. While he was a restricted free agent, Orlando could have matched any offer for him (but instead chose to let him go to New Orleans). In Ayon they receive back an underrated young big man who can play either power forward or center, although he obviously isn't as talented as Anderson.
