RAPS LAND LOWRY FOR FORBES, PICK

The Toronto Raptors acquired point guard Kyle Lowry from the Houston Rockets for swingman Gary Forbes and a protected future first-round draft pick.

What does it give the Toronto Raptors
The Raptors seem determined to add more toughness, defense, and speed overall so bringing in Lowry is a great major step toward those objectives. He broke through last season as one of the NBA's better all-round point guards, and he has the intensity and defensive feistiness head coach Dwane Casey is looking for. This move probably bumps the solid {P Jose Calderon} to the bench (assuming the Raptors keep him around), and immediately makes Toronto a more exciting up-tempo team. This is a steal for the Raps, and helps fans get over missing out on {P Steve Nash}.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
If Forbes sticks around with the Rockets he can bring underrated (if not great) all-round play to the wing positions off the bench. This deal is more about moving Lowry and his salary, as the point guard was unhappy in Houston after clashing with head coach Kevin McHale. It's a tough pill to swallow for the Rockets (since Lowry is a rising star) but he wasn't a happy camper. The protected pick may turn out to be a solid player years from now.
